Madison County coroner releases ID of woman who died after two-vehicle crash near Troy
An 81-year-old woman from Troy died from injuries she received in a two-vehicle crash near Troy, the Madison County coroner said.
Catherine L. Leathers died Wednesday in Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn said in a news release.
Leathers was a front-seat passenger in a 2006 Suzuki Vitara being driven by her husband on U.S. 40, Nonn said.
The Vitara was struck on the passenger side after the vehicle had entered into the path of a westbound 2021 Mazda CX-7, according to the news release.
Leathers’ husband was taken to a St. Louis hospital and the driver of the Mazda declined medical treatment.
The crash, which occurred at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of U.S. 40 with Glen Rae Drive/Bauer Road, remains under investigation by Illinois State Police and the coroner’s office.
Funeral arrangements are pending with the Richeson Funeral Home in Troy.
