Man shot and killed trying to enter Collinsville home, police say

A man was shot and killed in Collinsville Tuesday shortly after 6 p.m., police said.

In a release, the Collinsville Police Department said officers responded to a reported shooting in the 500 block of St. Louis Road. They quickly located a man with gunshot wounds on the front porch of a residence and attempted first aid until fire and EMS workers could arrive.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the release stated.

Police said it appears the man was trying to enter the house and was shot by the homeowner, who is “cooperating fully.”

Neither the victim or homeowner has been identified. It’s not clear if the two were acquainted.

Since the victim is related to a part-time employee of the Collinsville Police Department, the Madison County Sheriff’s Department has taken over the investigation.
