Hot start to the work week: heat index of 105

A heat advisory is in place for the metro-east for the early part of the week.

The high temperature will reach 92 Monday with a heat index of 105, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.

Monday night, the 20 percent chance of storms will remain as the low drops to 76.

The temperature will be even higher Tuesday, reaching a high of 95 with a heat index of 109 under mostly sunny skies.

The low will be 78 Tuesday night with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms.

The chance of storms will increase to 40 percent Wednesday when the high will be 92.

It will be partly cloudy Wednesday night with a low of 68.

Cooling sites

Sites offer the general public air-conditioned relief and cool water during the hottest part of the day. Sites will be activated if an Excessive Heat Advisory or Warning is issued by the National Weather Service. Heat Advisory issued when the Heat Index is expected to reach 105 degrees F or air temperature reaches, at least 100 degrees F.
