St. Clair County town is about to get a new market. Construction is underway
Ground was broken in April for a DG Market at 702 S. Main St. in Smithton, and work on the building’s foundation is currently in progress.
Plans are for the store to open by early September based on current projections, according to a spokesperson with Dollar General’s public relations team.
This is the latest store coming to the area, including the up-and-running store in Freeburg and possible locations in Belleville and Mascoutah.
While store plans have been approved by Belleville and Mascoutah officials, both projects are still in their due diligence phases, according to the spokesperson.
This means that Dollar General is reviewing the opportunities to open new stores in these communities but have not yet committed to doing so.
The BND will update progress on each store as more information becomes available.
An existing Dollar General store is located in Smithton at 4037 IL State Route 159. It is not clear at this time if this store will close when the new DG Market store opens.
A message left for Smithton Mayor Michael Smallwood was not immediately returned.
