A Special Olympics participant, a music lover and a big fan of her little doggy, “Shelby.”

Those are some of the memories of Jessica Lynn White that were posted by those who knew her on her online obituary.

White, 39, was found fatally shot in her home on Bruns Road near Granite City on Saturday. Investigators with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office believe she was shot by 88-year-old Thomas Teitloff who then killed himself.

Teitloff and White were not related biologically but “they considered themselves like family,” Capt. Brian Koberna said in a statement on Tuesday. Koberna said the department would not comment on the motive for the apparent murder-suicide.

Visitation for White is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Irwin Chapel at 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City with the funeral set for 7 p.m. in the chapel.

“Jessica enjoyed her years of participating with the Special Olympics, attending day camps and bowling,” her obituary states. “She attended several churches in the area throughout the years and had a special love for music and dancing. She loved people, cherished animals and loved her little ‘Shelby.’”

Several people have written tributes to White on the Irwin Chapel’s website. One friend described White as “a good person.”

Funeral arrangements for Teitloff are pending with the Irwin Chapel.
