Motorcyclist killed in Interstate 55 crash in East St. Louis; highway closed for hours, police say

A motorcyclist died in a collision with a tractor-trailer Wednesday afternoon and southbound Interstate 55 in East St. Louis was closed for several hours for the investigation, Illinois State Police said.

The victim’s name has not been released.

The crash occurred at about 12:17 p.m. on southbound I-55 north of Illinois 3 at the 1 mile post, according to a news release from Illinois State Police.

All lanes reopened at 4:40 p.m., state police said.

No other information was released.

This was the second fatal crash Wednesday on I-55 in the metro-east. A Troy woman died in a three-vehicle crash at 4:14 a.m. in Madison County.
