St. Clair County coroner IDs motorcyclist killed in I-55 crash with a truck

A 29-year-old St. Louis man has been identified as the motorcyclist who died Wednesday in a collision with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 55 in East St. Louis, the St. Clair County coroner said Thursday.
Sasa Kartalija of the 3800 block of Alexander Street in St. Louis was pronounced dead at the scene, Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said.
Kartalija’s motorcycle hit a tractor-trailer at 12:17 p.m. on southbound Interstate 55 north of Illinois 3 at mile marker 1, according to information from Dye and a news release from Illinois State Police.
The highway was closed to traffic until 4:40 p.m. while police investigated the scene.
No other information about the crash was released by state police.
