It took 4 years, but beauty supply shop at west Belleville intersection is finally open
After a little over four years of wondering and waiting, the business at the intersection of West Main Street and North Belt West in Belleville is finally open.
A&A Beauty Supply opened Friday, Nov. 22, and offers up numerous hair care and styling products and so much more.
I recently stopped by to check it out and was impressed by the quantity of items available.
The nearly 10,000-square-foot store has hair extensions in multiple colors, lengths and styles, various brands of shampoo, conditioner, styling gels, sprays and oils, and other hair care products.
Accessories include hair ties, clips, rubber bands, bows, charms and beads, barrettes, as well as scarves, wraps and wigs.
Hair dryers and irons are available, as are manicure/pedicure products and tools, nail polishes, products for beard care and maintenance and more.
There are even some cosmetics, jewelry and clothing.
The available hair color kits include a lot of fun colors, which is good to know. It’s been a while since I rocked a blue do.
A long time coming
Plans for the store were first approved by the city in September 2020. At that time, the city engineer had some concerns that needed to be addressed and were subject to approval before building permits were issued.
Construction on the site was well underway by spring 2021.
The BND reported the stores progress in May 2023, when owner Mohammed “Mike” Jaber spoke of delays resulting from “problems with the city and the contractor” and an inability to acquire parts for an electrical panel ordered a year earlier.
Other issues included stop-work orders issued due to problems including improper installation of foundation footings and exterior wall blocks, which were redone.
The Illinois Department of Transportation was also involved. Parking lot entrances had to be relocated to accommodate traffic flow at the intersection of West Main Street and North Belt West.

Jaber’s first A&A Beauty Supply store opened in St. Louis more than 30 years ago and is located at 2614 S. Jefferson Ave.
Before moving to the new location, the second store was located at 13 Bellevue Park Plaza, where it operated for about seven years.
A&A Beauty is located at 4524 W. Main St. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
