Pannier was found near Doza Creek in Lenzburg shortly after 12:45 p.m. Saturday, according to St. Clair County Sheriff Capt. Scott Weymouth.

A family member located Pannier and called police.

He was found near his 1988 Chevrolet truck, which had sustained some damage, Weymouth said.

“At this time, we are believing it was a medical emergency,” he said. “It appears he lost control of the vehicle as it went down the embankment.”

It’s unclear whether Pannier was ejected from the vehicle or got out on his own accord, according to police. He was found outside the vehicle and had “visible injuries,” Weymouth said.

The Sheriff’s Department has requested assistance from the Illinois State Police accident reconstruction team to investigate.

Pannier was pronounced dead at the scene. He was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville for testing, Weymouth said. An autopsy is not scheduled.

St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the incident.

Heil-Schuessler Funeral Home is handling Pannier’s arrangements.
