East St. Louis Police found the body of a man they believed to have been unhoused inside an abandoned police car Saturday.

Kakeesha Brannigan, spokesperson for the East St. Louis Police Department, said it is believed the man was seeking shelter from weather elements inside the car, which was left parked on 20th Street.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said the unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene in the 500 block of N. 20th St. at 8:50 a.m.

Dye said the man appeared to have been in the car for a while.
