Plans are in the works for a former Burger King restaurant on the east end of Belleville at Green Mount Commons.

Belleville Ward 7 Alderman Phil Elmore confirmed in a phone call Monday that Chase Bank will renovate the shuttered restaurant, which closed in summer 2024.

The financial institution feels it is advantageous to open a branch in an area so close to Scott Air Force Base and Southwestern Illinois College, Elmore said.

“The whole area is just booming,” he said of the Green Mount Commons area.

“We’re excited to build our first Belleville Chase branch at 2508 Green Mount Commons Drive, which will have a target open date in Q4 2025,” wrote a Chase spokesperson in an email to the BND. “We’re renovating the existing property to create a branch that features a modern design, layout, and brings more state-of-the-art banking technology and services to Belleville residents.”

Chase Bank is the latest development update for the Green Mount Commons area. Another project involves the construction of a new mixed-use development behind Lowe’s off of North Green Mount Road and will include a Starbucks.
