Pedestrian fatally hit by truck on metro-east highway

A pedestrian on Interstate 70 in Madison County was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer late Thursday night, Illinois State Police said.

The victim’s name has not yet been released, according to the Madison County Coroner’s Office.

The person was struck on Interstate 70 westbound at milepost 20, just west of Illinois 4, according to a news release from Illinois State Police.

No other information about the person’s death has been released.

The highway was closed for about six hours from late Thursday to early Friday during the investigation, police said.
