A Collinsville Walmart Supercenter employee accused of stabbing a co-worker told police he felt the victim had “disrespected” him before the attack inside the store.

Kelvin F. Fuller, 19, of Collinsville was charged Thursday with attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery.

The charges allege he repeatedly cut the victim’s neck and stabbed her back and body with a knife on Wednesday afternoon when she was behind the deli counter.

The victim has had “multiple surgeries to repair internal injuries suffered from numerous stab wounds,” according to court records filed by Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine’s office.

A defense attorney is not listed for Fuller in court records and a pretrial detention hearing has not yet been scheduled.

“Video showed that the victim was standing behind the counter talking to another employee, when the defendant approached from behind, placed a knife to her throat and dragged it across her neck,” according to the state’s attorney’s petition asking a judge to hold Fuller in jail before his trial.

The victim was able to flee as employees and customers moved to stop the attack.

Fuller was arrested a “short distance” from the store, according to a news release from the Collinsville Police Department.

Fuller allegedly admitted to stabbing his co-worker, according to court records. Police officers seized a knife believed to have been used in the attack.

The petition states Fuller “admitted to bringing the knife and black gloves to work, and putting them on after feeling ‘disrespected’ by the victim, who was a newer employee.”

“When she broke free, he indicated he was still looking for her, and would have kept going if he found her,” according to the petition. “He admitted he did not think the victim could survive the stabbing he inflicted.”

Officers responded to the stabbing at 3:56 p.m. Wednesday in the store at 1040 Collinsville Crossing Blvd., police said.
