A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital after a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning on I-55 South near East St. Louis.

According to the Illinois State Police, a Chrysler Minivan swerved into the far-right lane to avoid upcoming traffic in the center lane, cutting off the path of multiple motorcycles. A Harley-Davidson motorcycle collided with the rear of the minivan. The motorcycle rider was ejected from the bike and landed on the right shoulder of the road.

ISP said the incident occurred at approximately 10:33 a.m., and listed the location as I-55 Southbound Exit 3C near Exchange Avenue in East St. Louis. Initially, multiple lanes were shut down, but have since been reopened.

ISP did not say what other agencies responded.

The crash is under investigation, and no further information, including the motorcyclist’s condition and other responding agencies, is being released at this time, ISP said.
