Coroner IDs man killed in single-vehicle crash in metro-east
A Maryville man has been identified as the person who died in a Fairmont City crash last week.
Jeffrey Fields, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Collinsville Road, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.
The single-vehicle crash occurred in the 1900 block of Collinsville Road when the vehicle hit a support column for a train trestle at about 11 a.m. Thursday, according to information from Dye and Fairmont City Police Chief Gerald Brown Jr.
Brown said the vehicle was traveling at a “high rate of speed” at the time of the crash.
There were no witnesses to the crash. A passer-by came up on the wreckage and alerted police, Brown said.
The visitation for Fields will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Teat Chapel Funeral Home at 10419 Lincoln Trail in Fairview Heights. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
