Bomb squad to conduct ‘controlled detonations’ after fatal Troy fire
The Illinois Secretary of State Bomb Squad will conduct “controlled detonations of several devices” southeast of Troy Tuesday as part of the investigation into an explosion and fire that killed three people, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said.
“This will be conducted throughout the day at two separate locations southeast of Troy,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release. “Many emergency vehicles will be present.”
The location of the detonations was not released.
The names of the three people who died in the home have not been released.
One person suffered significant burn injuries and was transported to a St. Louis-area hospital.
The explosion occurred late Sunday in the 8000 block of West Kirsch Road, just west of O’Fallon-Troy Road.
Along with the sheriff’s office and the county coroner, agents from the Illinois State Fire Marshal, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are also working on the investigation.
The cause of the blast has not been announced.
When first responders arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames, according to the Troy Fire Department.
