Off-duty police officer hit and killed on Clinton County road
An off-duty New Baden police officer was struck and killed by a vehicle on a rural Clinton County road late Tuesday, authorities say.
St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the victim as David Jordan, 59.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Jordan was a patrolman with the New Baden Police Department.
The New Baden Police Department released a statement about Jordan’s “unexpected and sudden passing,” confirming that his death was not duty related.
“Officer Jordan was a dedicated and valuable member of the New Baden Police Department since 2019,” it said. “His professionalism and community spirit will be missed by all. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are extended to his family and co-workers during this difficult time.”
Police and emergency medical services responded to a 911 call at 11:51 p.m. reporting a pedestrian had been struck in the 200 block of Wesclin Road near Trenton, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Department.
First responders rendered aid at the scene before transporting Jordan with head and chest injuries to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, the release stated. He was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 1:24 a.m., Dye said.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department is not releasing further information at this time.
