UPDATED 2:40 P.M. JULY 2: The story has been updated to show that the highway has reopened.
A Thursday morning car crash in Washington County resulted in injuries and left a portion of I-64 westbound closed into the afternoon.
According to Illinois State Police, a single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. on I-64 westbound just west of County Highway 4, or milepost 44.
Both westbound lanes are closed starting around milepost 50 in Okawville “and will be closed for an extended time,” Illinois State Police said, encouraging drivers to seek alternative routes when possible. The highway was reopened at about 2:30 p.m., police said.
Two people were transported to the hospital, Illinois State Police said, though the extent of their injuries is not being released.
