Woman killed, man hurt after being struck by school bus on U.S. 50

A woman was killed and a man was hurt after they were struck by a school bus on U.S. 50 in O’Fallon Tuesday afternoon.

According to a statement from the O’Fallon Police Department, police were notified at 3:44 p.m. of the crash that occurred in the 8400 block of U.S. 50 just east of the intersection with Scott Troy Road. The statement said the school bus, which had children on board, was headed westbound when it struck both a man and a woman who also were walking westbound.

Both pedestrians were transported to Saint Louis University Hospital, where the female later died. O’Fallon police did not release her name because they were still working to notify her family. No one else was reported hurt in the crash.

The crash is under investigation by the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team. Police did not immediately comment on whether the pedestrians were walking in the roadway or on the shoulder and did not release additional information about whether the bus driver would be cited.
