▪  Days after being charged with murder for a stabbing near Belleville, 19-year-old Damon Stidimire was found hanged in jail. The sheriff’s department is investigating Stidimire’s death, along with the Illinois Department of Corrections, which is standard procedure.

▪  Insurers for Freeburg School District 70 are denying coverage in a lawsuit arising from alleged sexual abuse of a student by former superintendent Rob Hawkins. The district’s insurers have already paid more than $5.6 million to settle four other lawsuits. The fifth case is pending.
