Caseyville police investigate baby’s death
Caseyville police are investigating the death of a 5-month-old boy.
Police Chief Frank Moore confirmed the department received a 911 call between 4 and 4:30 a.m. on Monday from a Caseyville hotel.
“The caller reported that there was a baby that wasn’t conscious and wasn’t breathing,” Moore said.
Officer Matt Sinnokrak, who is also a paramedic, arrived and tried to perform CPR, Moore said. Abbott ambulance arrived and transported the baby to Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Child Death Review Team is investigating, Moore said. The child’s name was not released.
Moore said there were other children in the hotel room when police responded Monday. He said the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was summoned.
Moore said there was no sign of trauma to the 5-month-old boy. An autopsy is pending to determine cause of death.
Illinois State Police Crime Scene processed the room for evidence.
“We are investigating. We investigate anything like that,” Moore said.
