Don’t Miss This: Five safe despite severe fire damage to Belleville home

▪ A fire at First and F streets severely damaged a home, displacing the three adults and two small children who reside there.

The five residents were able to exit the house safely before the majority of the damage occurred.

▪ A former Granite City Police Department officer has been charged with obstruction of justice and misconduct.

St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly’s office was appointed as special prosecutor to investigate the case. It found charges were warranted because it was determined former Lt. Thomas Paul provided false information in the aftermath of an incident in which his police vehicle was stolen.

Lamonica Henderson, the woman inside the stolen police car, was on probation, according to St. Clair County prosecutors.

▪ A Belleville man was killed Sunday in a single-car crash that closed U.S. Highway 50 for hours.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to police and St. Clair County Coroner Rick Stone.

▪ Five people were charged in connection with a street brawl that erupted in Fairview Heights.

Police said the suspects were involved in an on-going feud so they decided to settle things in the street in a residential neighborhood.

The fight involved one of the participants retrieving a knife from a car and throwing it at another.
