Don’t Miss This: East St. Louis man charged with murder

▪  An East St. Louis man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a Centreville man.

Sammie Swift, 21, faces one count of first degree murder in the death DeAngelo Oliver, 25.

On Wednesday, police were called to 4763 Piggott Avenue in Centreville with a report of shots fired and a man down. When they arrived, officers found Oliver on the ground after being shot several times.

Swift is being held in the St. Clair County Jail on $750,000 bail.

▪  A 59-year-old, female delivery driver was beaten and robbed in a Belleville neighborhood.

According to police reports, the attack happened at about 4 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of Wabash Avenue.

The suspects were described as male teenagers. A tracking dog was unsuccessful in locating them.

▪  Southern Illinois University Edwardsville leaders have unveiled plans for weathering the state’s budget crisis.

Interim chancellor Stephen Hansen said the school needs to find other ways to increase revenue to continue to provide a quality education.
