▪ Fairview Heights residents will enjoy a new recreation center complete with an indoor swimming pool, a splash pad and workout facilities just in time for the city’s 50th anniversary in 2019.
But the plans don’t clear up the murky future of the U.S. Ice Sports Complex which has been closed for four years because of mine subsidence.
The demand for that facility is up in the air with a new building with two ice rinks, swimming pools and other recreational facilities under construction in O’Fallon.
▪ Investigators are looking into a pair of suspicious fires involving semi trucks.
Two trucks, parked about 30 feet apart in a Belleville parking lot at 7230 Westfield Plaza. When firefighters arrived at 1:38 Monday morning, one of the trucks was ablaze and the other was smoking.
Belleville Fire Department Chief Tom Pour said samples have been sent to a crime lab as part of the investigation.
▪ A Cahokia man is facing charges after he allegedly stabbed a convenience store customer in the groin.
Toni L. Chamberlain, 43, has been charged with three counts of aggravated battery in connection with the attack which happened March 8.
According to police reports, Jeremy T. Bradley, 20, was stabbed at the Best Stop convenience store at 2003 Camp Jackson Road.
