▪ A 41-year-old East St. Louis man was killed early Monday by police after he was seen running around the neighborhood naked, shooting at bystanders and cars, and then pointing a gun at two officers.
The man, identified as Jason Brooks, of East St. Louis, was sitting on a porch firing a gun, according to Lt. Dave Bivens, head of investigations for the Illinois State Police District 11. The suspect allegedly pointed a gun at two officers from the Washington Park and East St. Louis police departments, who had responded to a call of a man firing a gun. The officers fired at the man multiple times.
The shooting occurred about 6 a.m. in front of 1602 Gaty Ave.
▪ A Belleville 16-year-old was charged Monday as an adult with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, one count of vehicular hijacking and one count of aggravated unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle in connection with an attack on a stranger inside her garage.
Leondre McClendon and another suspect were on electronic monitoring for an undisclosed juvenile crimes at the time of the sexual assault and carjacking, according to a search warrant application filed in St. Clair County Court on May 26.
The charges stem from a May 5 attack on the victim, who was a woman in her 20s.
▪ Jeremiah Tilmon, a 6-foot-10, 235-pound former East St. Louis High center, announced on his Twitter account Monday that he had made a verbal commitment to the University of Illinois.
That news was retweeted close to a thousand times within the first hour, according to Tilmon.
According to ESPN, Tilmon chose Illinois over North Carolina, Kansas, Texas, Michigan State and Missouri.
