Don’t Miss This: City gives apartment residents more time to look for new homes

Don’t miss these stories Thursday at BND.com:

▪ Residents of the Rob Nora Apartments have been given additional time by Belleville before they have to leave the complex.

The city had ordered about 30 residents to leave by Wednesday because the complex at 7009 W. Main St. failed to meet the city’s building code requirements.

City inspectors are set to return to the complex on Aug. 8 to see how many people are still there.

▪ Gov. Bruce Rauner was in Belleville Wednesday as part of a statewide tour promoting term limits and legislative redistricting reform.

Rauner urged General Assembly members to vote to put constitutional amendments on the November ballot to allow legislative term limits and to change the way the state’s legislative districts are drawn.

Term limits and redistricting reform have been part of Rauner’s “Turnaround Agenda” he’s promoted since he first ran for governor.

▪ An Edwardsville man recently pleaded guilty to fraud in federal court in Missouri.

Adam Bernaix, 35, of Edwardsville pleaded guilty to felony counts of mail fraud and money laundering before U.S. District Judge Henry Autrey. He was accused of submitting false invoices to his employer on behalf of a shell company he created.

Bernaix is set to be sentenced on Oct. 25 in the Eastern Missouri district of U.S. federal court.
