Collinsville police hold man in connection with shooting at motorist

Police on Saturday said they had taken a man into custody they believe may have been involved in a Collinsville shooting on July 23.

Collinsville police worked with U.S. marshals to bring the man in, but they are not releasing his name, pending charges.

An investigation into the shooting, which occurred on the 100 block of North Orient Street, revealed that it was not a random act, police said.

Police were called to the scene around 10:50 p.m. on June 23 for a report of a motorist who had been shot at while driving on Illinois 159. The motorist’s vehicle was hit, but the motorist was not injured. Police determined that the gunshots had come from a two-tone maroon truck, and they found shell casings on the street.

The victim then drove to the Madison County Transit station to report the incident.

Anyone with information can call Detective Chris Warren at 618-344-2131, extension 5139 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-8477.
