Police search for suspect in weekend Collinsville shooting

Collinsville police on Sunday were investigating an overnight shooting in which a vehicle was struck but the motorist inside was not injured.

Police received a call about 10:50 p.m. Saturday reporting that a motorist had been shot while driving on Illinois 159. Shell casings were recovered on the road in the 100 block of N. Orient Street. The gun shots originated from a two-tone maroon truck, according to police.

The victim drove to the Madison Count Transit station on Clay Street across the street from the Collinsville Police Department and met with officers.

Police stated in a news release that the victim did not know the suspect, but that officers do not believe the shooting was a random act.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Chris Warren at 618-344-2131, extension 5139 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-8477.
