▪ A 31-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash late Tuesday night. He suffered multiple injuries when he was struck by an SUV after he had stopped to talk to his sister near their home.
Julia Doerr said her brother, Josh Doerr of Pocahontas, had parked his motorcycle and was hit while he was talking to Jenny Doerr, who was in her car. They were at the Baumann Road and Keyesport Road intersection in rural Madison County about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when Josh Doerr was hit.
The driver fled the scene and was arrested shortly afterward in nearby Clinton County. Charges were pending.
▪ Work is ongoing on a $6.57 million project along Frank Scott Parkway East as intersections are being widened at Old Collinsville Road, Hartman Lane and North Green Mount Road.
Through lanes and turn lanes are being added at the intersections, said Jim Fields, St. Clair County engineer, who heads up the county highway department.
DMS Construction is carrying out the $6.57 million project, which includes some federal dollars.
The project is meant to help ease traffic congestion, and eventually set up an eventual widening of Frank Scott Parkway from Illinois 159 to North Green Mount Road, Fields said.
▪ A mother and her eight children were displaced early Monday after a fire swept through their double-wide mobile home in the 4800 block of Washington Park Boulevard.
Washington Park Fire Chief Charles Schreiber said a call reporting the fire came in at 2:40 a.m. He said the fire, which gutted the four bedroom mobile home, was caused by a stove that was left unattended while it was being used.
