Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats’ new music video, which was filmed in Belleville in April, has been released.

The song “Heartless” is on the upcoming album “South of Here,” which is due to be released on June 28. You can watch the “official” video for “Heartless” on YouTube.

Rateliff, who is known for songs in the Americana genre and has opened for The Rolling Stones, grew up in Hermann, Missouri.

The video features a boy who witnesses various slice-of-life scenes as he runs from a tragic event at home.

Kimberly Stuckwisch directed the video.

Rateliff released this statement about working with Stuckwisch: “This song means a lot to me personally and speaks to the struggle of everyone trying to find their way. Kimberly and I come from similar backgrounds, both of us grew up in rural areas trying to find our way out of poverty. I was unsure how to approach a video for this song but felt so blessed to be able to work with Kimberly and see her vision for the song unfold.”

The credits at the end of the video give thanks to several groups, including the city of Belleville, the city clerk’s office, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and the residents of North 11th Street. The credits also list a “St. Paul’s Community Center” but the director of St. Paul’s Senior Community at 1021 W. E St. believes the listing was meant for his organization because the video production crew had been allowed to park vehicles on land owned by St. Paul’s Senior Community.

If you want to see Rateliff in person with his band The Night Sweats, their tour stops in St. Louis on Oct. 30 at Chaifetz Arena on the campus of St. Louis University.

You’ll have to go to Europe if you want to see him in June and July. He kicks off his tour in Oslo, Norway, on June 15.
