Plagued by a pothole or broken streetlight on your Belleville commute? The city runs an online 311 reporting system where you can let officials know about these concerns and more.

You can make a 311 report through “myBelleville” via app, phone, text or online portal, although the non-emergency phone and text numbers aren’t “311.”

City officials note while reports can be made 24/7, city staff monitor reports from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The myBelleville reporting system should not be used for emergencies. Officials ask residents to call 911 for emergencies, and call the Belleville Police Department at 618-234-1212 to report lost or stolen property.

What can you report through myBelleville?

Residents can report “pretty much any concern” through Belleville’s 311 system, city clerk Shelly Schaefer told the News-Democrat in a recent email.

Here’s a non-exhaustive list of issues you can report online:

  • Stray animals
  • Fire safety concern
  • Possible health code violation
  • Abandoned vehicle
  • Garbage or litter accumulation
  • Derelict property
  • Fireworks
  • Open burning
  • Flooding
  • Potholes
  • Damaged sidewalks
  • Sinkholes
  • Snow removal issues
  • Streetlight and traffic signal outages
  • Fallen trees

You may want to keep in mind any information you submit to the city is considered a public record.

How can you make a non-emergency report?

To make a 311 report online through myBelleville, you’ll first be asked to enter the location of the issue. You can make an online account to get updates on your request, as well.

Next, you’ll use a drop-down menu to select the type of issue you’re reporting. Depending on what you select, additional questions may populate. There’s also an open-ended text box where you can describe the issue in more detail. You can upload up to five photos or files of the problem.

After entering in the location and details for your report, you’ll be asked for your name, email address, phone number and home address, and you can sign up to receive request updates via email or text.

What if you don’t have a smartphone or computer?

You can also text 618-677-6080 or call 618-233-6810 to make a non-emergency request in Belleville.
