Highland Arts Council to present 8th annual Art of Soul workshop
The Highland Arts Council presents its eighth Art of Soul, a workshop of artistic fun for ages high school to 104.
Art of Soul offers something for people who are artists, enjoy playing with artistic supplies, or simply are art enthusiasts
Participants will meet from 7-9 p.m. Thursdays beginning Feb. 20 through March 19 in the social hall of Evangelical United Church of Christ, 2520 Poplar St., Highland. Each workshop will offer instruction in a specific artistic medium.
All materials will be provided for each class. Participants will go home with at least one project from each workshop. People will discover how to capture creative ideas step by step and build on those experiences.
Session I, Feb. 20
- Lynnette Schuepbach will show doodles can become a piece of art. Schuepbach is an author, artist and president of Highland Arts Council. She loves encouraging creativity in everyone.
Session II, Feb. 27
- Sarah Walker will share her skills in bookmaking. Walker is a professional artist from Highland. She serves on the Highland Arts Council and is pursuing her masters of fine arts degree at SIUE.
Session III, March 5
- Peg Bellm, a professional artist, will help participants create a hinged box with polymer clay. Bellm creates items using polymer clay and is an award-winning artist at Art in the Park.
Session IV, March 12
- Paulette Todd, artist and teacher, will share her techniques for painting with pastels. Todd regularly teaches classes in her business, Kids Art Club.
Session V, March 19
- Printing making is an ancient technique. Christy MacMorran will show how it can be done with modern supplies. MacMorran was an award-winning artist at Art in the Park in 2018 and teaches classes in various mediums.

The Highland Arts Council actively promotes the arts in the community of Highland through a variety of activities and projects. The HAC provides a showcase for local artists and an educational opportunity for many members of the community to be exposed to the arts.
