Highland High School varsity cheerleaders tearing up the competition

The Highland High School varsity cheerleaders took first place out of 17 teams in the medium varsity division at the ICCA State Championship on Saturday, Jan. 11

In addition, seniors Rileigh Bent, Karley Broske and Kamy Daiber were named members of the all state cheer team, and Broske and Daiber were recognized as scholar athletes. Daiber also earned a top 13 ICCA scholarship. The varsity team last took home the ICCA first place trophy in 2016.

Highland followed up that performance by placing first in the Mississippi Valley Conference at the 618 Cheer Conference Competition held at Triad High School on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Five team members earned the distinction of being named to the all-conference team: Bent, Broske, Daiber, Karlie Hooton and Kyleigh Buchen.

The team is coached by Angie Fears and Tess Henke.

The team competes next at the Mater Dei ICCA Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 26, ahead of the IHSA sectionals in Carterville on Saturday, Feb. 1.
