Pat Jacoby winner of Highland Garden Club September 2020 Yard of the Month award

The Highland Garden Club September Yard of the Month award goes to Pat Jacoby of 200 Mirabeau. Her home is located on a large, well-manicured lot filled with colorful plants, trees, and evergreen shrubs.

Pat’s inviting front entrance shows that fall is on its way — a metal wagon full of pumpkins and fall foliage leads you to the front porch where a rocking chair holds more pumpkin decorations.

The driveway entrances are flanked by blooming white hydrangeas and Rose of Sharon trees. In the center of the front lawn is a landscape bed with two large oak trees, crape myrtle, burning bush and spirea, and edged with brick.

Along the front of the home is a variety of evergreens — pines, hollies, and spruce — providing year-round interest. Tucked into a corner near the garage entrance is a butterfly bench, a basket of colorful annuals, and a hello sign. Opposite is a large hanging basket filled with red mandevilla vine.

You are in for a surprise as you take a short walk down the hill to the lower level of Pat’s home and get a view of the two large retaining walls covered in blooming pink, white and red impatiens. WOW is the word I would use to describe the wall of flowers. Pat said an irrigation system keeps the plants watered. A beautiful patio, where you can sit and enjoy the beauty surrounding you, is positioned between the two walls on the lower level.
