Jody & Lew Lux winners of Highland Garden Club July 2020 Yard of the Month award

The first Highland Garden Club Yard of the Month award for 2020 goes to Lewis and Jody Lux at 1222 Lindenthal Ave.

Their historic home, dating back to the early 1900’s, sits on a corner lot and looks out onto the beautiful tree-lined avenue. Rain and storms throughout the day slowed enough for the presentation to take place in the afternoon and the weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the homeowners.

Jody and Lew Lux were excited to welcome Highland Mayor Joe Michaelis and the Highland Garden Club committee to their yard to show off their hard work.

The white frame home has a large front porch filled with colorful hanging baskets, potted ferns, and inviting seating. A welcome sign leans against the wall near the front door. Americana décor abounds — a patriotic mirror ball and bird bath are tucked among the shrubs along the front of the house, while a flag flies from the porch.

The hidden gem of this front landscape is a 240-gallon koi pond. People can hear the sound of water trickling over the stones and into the pond. A colorful metal peacock sculpture stands guard at the top of the pond. The water feature is filled with a blooming waterlily, water hyacinths and water lettuces. Hosta, grasses and other plants surround the pond, while garden statues accent the surrounding area.

The homeowners and their dog like to spend time out on the porch enjoying their plants and the view.
