Highland High School cheer team starts 2022-23 season with a bang

The 2022-23 Highland High School cheer season is off to an amazing start.

The team competed in the Coed Division on Nov. 27 in Alton at the ICCA Invitational and took home a first place finish. They also qualified for the ICCA Championships in January, right out of the gate. Then on Dec. 10, Highland hosted its own ICCA Invitational and again took first place in the Coed Division.

On Dec. 21, Highland High School had three athletes named to the 2023 All State Team. They were chosen from cheerleaders across the state, along with 12 others. Athletes are chosen based on tumbling, jumps and stunt skills, along with their cheer performance.

The three to make the All State team were senior Avery Miles, junior Lexie Fears, and junior Chloe McTeer.
