A man is in police custody after robbing a courier at a restaurant parking lot in Millstadt, police say.

The courier was transporting money for video gaming machines, said Lt. Alan Hucke of the Millstadt Police Department. He was approached by the suspect on foot at about 11 a.m. at the Breadeaux Pizza at 105 S. Jefferson St. in Millstadt and the suspect ordered the courier to give him the money.

The suspect left in a silver Nissan Versa, police said, and broadcast the vehicle’s description on the police radio.

“Observant officers (a few) miles away spotted the vehicle, that’s what (the suspect’s capture) came down to,” Hucke said.

The suspect was stopped by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies near Illinois 157, he said.

Police did not say how much money was taken. They have requested a search warrant for the vehicle.

Millstadt police would like to talk to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time, Hucke said. Witnesses can call the Millstadt Police Department at 618-476-7250.
