No charges immediately issued against woman found at scene of man’s death in Belleville

Belleville police announced that the woman who was taken into custody following the death of a man early Saturday has been released without charges.

In a Sunday news release, the department said the 27-year-old woman, who has not been identified, was released after the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office took the issue under advisement.

At 2:57 a.m. on Saturday, police found the woman waiting for them outside of a home in the 2100 block of Scheel Street, a news release from the department stated. When police entered the residence, they found a 31-year-old man bleeding from a wound to the torso.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injury. According to police, the incident was “domestic in nature” and the department is not seeking any other suspects in the case.

Anyone with information regarding the case can contact the Belleville Police Department at 618-234-1212.
