Edwardsville homicide victim identified as St. Louis man

A St. Louis man has been identified as the victim in a suspected homicide in Edwardsville.

Scott David Brown, 43, was found dead in the area of Poag Road near Illinois 111 at 7:08 a.m. on Tuesday, a news release from the Edwardsville Police Department stated. Brown’s last known address was in the 4500 block of North 19th Street.

Police activated the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, which investigates homicides, because foul play was suspected in Brown’s death. More than 27 investigators from different agencies are participating in the investigation and looking at numerous leads.

According to a news release from Madison County Sheriff’s Department Capt. David Vucich, who is part of the Major Case Squad, Brown was known to frequent the areas of Collinsville, Edwardsville and Caseyville, and used local bus lines for transportation.

The Major Case Squad released a photo of Brown and asked anyone with information to call 618-307-1611.

In the release, Vucich said police will not release any information concerning evidence of the case, manner or cause of death for Brown or his past history. Additional information regarding the case will be made available “in the near future,” he said.
