Shooting in East St. Louis leaves one dead, another wounded

East St. Louis Police were called Saturday night to the 2500 block of Henrietta Ave. on a report that multiple shots had been fired.

When they arrived, they found the body of a dead female behind the wheel of her SUV. Next to her was a wounded male passenger, whose name has not been released.

St Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the woman as Cara D. Young, 34, of the 2100 block of Tenbrook in Arnold, Missouri.

The male passenger was taken to a St. Louis hospital for medical treatment, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Elbert Jennings said.

Police received the call at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday. Jennings would not confirm the cause of Young’s death, pending an autopsy. He said the motive is unknown.
