Illinois State Police, coroner investigating inmate’s death at Madison County Jail

The Madison County Coroner’s office in investigating the death of a woman found dead in her cell at the Madison County Jail.

Elissa A. Lindhorst, 28, of Glen Carbon, was pronounced dead at an area hospital after she was discovered unresponsive by jail staff at around 7:40 a.m. Monday, according to Illinois State Police.

County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said an autopsy conducted Tuesday revealed no immediate cause of death and added that no evidence of trauma was discovered during the autopsy. In a statement, he said test microscopic tissue and toxicology tests will be performed as well.

The Illinois State Police divisions of criminal investigation and forensic services, as well as its Bureau of Crime Scene Services also are investigating Lindhorst’s death.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time, but are under the direction of Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville.

Lindhorst was charged with possession of a controlled substance on Feb. 7 and was being held on $15,000 bond, according to records from the Madison County circuit clerk.
