Former Fairview Heights resident pleads guilty to sexual abuse of 11-year-old

A 36-year old former Fairview Heights resident pleaded guilty in St. Clair County Circuit Court Tuesday to the two felony charges of criminal sex abuse of a child.

Fairview Heights Police say Michael L. Lindsey used his friendship with his victim’s parents to access their child. His victim was 11 years old when the abuse began in 2007. It continued for “several years,” police say.

Lindsey plead guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse and has been held at the St. Clair County Jail since January of 2019. His bond was revoked. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled at a later date, according to court records.

Since the report was filed, Lindsey moved from Bunkum Road in Fairview Heights to Madison County and, eventually to Oklahoma, where he worked as an auxiliary police officer and an EMT, police said.

The victim and family also moved out of state but kept in contact with Lindsey, even as the abuse continued, Fairview Heights police said

“When the victims’ family realized what had happened they made police reports, which led to Lindsey’s arrest,” a release from Fairview Heighs Police said.

Police also said three boys, all of them teenagers or pre-teen age, accused Lindsey of sexual assault in incidents that happened across state lines.
