Two East St. Louis men face 45 years to life if convicted of 2019 murder

The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office Wednesday charged two East St. Louis men in connection with a murder last summer.

Reginald Alexander and Stephen Moore III each were charged by State’s Attorney James Gomric’s office with the first-degree murder of Markeese Fair, 23, also of East St. Louis.

Bond was set at $1 million each. They are being held at the St. Clair County Jail.

On the evening of June 6, 2019, East St. Louis Police officers were dispatched to Touchette Regional Hospital in Centreville after receiving a call at about a gunshot victim. Fair was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

According to the state’s attorney’s office, the shooting happened near the intersection of Belleview Avenue and North 24th Street in East St. Louis. No other information regarding evidence or motive is available.

If convicted, Alexander and Moore could each face a sentence of 45 years to live in prison with no chance of parole.

Illinois State Police and East St. Louis police investigated the case.
