St. Clair County man charged with carjacking while already on supervised release
A St. Clair County man was indicted on charges by a federal grand jury for an alleged armed carjacking in February, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri in St. Louis.
Keyshaun Jenkins, 19, is facing one felony count of carjacking and one felony count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime.
According to the attorney’s office, two victims were standing near a Volswagen Passat on Feb. 28 at an undisclosed location when Jenkins and another person approached the two victims from the darkness, police said. According to the statement, both Jenkins and the additional suspect allegedly carried handguns, wore masks and all-black clothing.
One of the men then struck one of the victims on the side of the head with a handgun and demanded the victim’s car key, cell phone and the password to the phone, court records show. The other man pointed a gun at the second victim and demanded the victim’s cell phone and password as well.
The two men then got into the Passat and drove away, court documents said.
At the time of the alleged carjacking, Jenkins was on supervised release from a prior conviction or possession of a stolen firearm.
Jenkins was arrested Wednesday, March 4. At the time of his arrest, he was carrying bag police say contained the key to the victim’s Volkswagen Passat and the victim’s other belongings.
In a statement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Jenkins could face up to 15 years for carjacking and a fine of up to $250,000 and no less than seven years for brandishing a firearm during the carjacking and a fine of up to $250,000.
