Female suspect in Belleville stabbing death is released by police

A 34-year old woman arrested in connection with a stabbing death late Saturday night was released by Belleville police Tuesday.

Belleville Lt. Todd Keilbach, in a press release, said the case was submitted to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney Jim Gomric’s office for review and was taken under advisement Monday.

Since no charges were filed, the suspect was released. Keilbach said Monday that police are not looking for any other suspects.

The woman as in “domestic relationship” with Jeffrey Dent, 49, who was found dead in his apartment on the 300 block of West ‘I’ Street.

Belleville police were notified at about 10:46 p.m. that a male in the residence was stabbed and unconscious., Keilbach said. When officers arrived on the scene, the woman inside the apartment waiting for them.

She directed them to a rear bedroom where police The victim with a stab wound to his torso.

The suspect complained of injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
