Body pulled from East St. Louis creek identified as Granite City woman

The woman whose body was pulled from a creek near North 79th Street in East St. Louis nearly two weeks ago has been identified..

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said the victim is Ciara L. Elias-Walls, 33, of Granite City.

East St. Louis police received a call at 9:20 a.m. on April 8 that a body was seen floating in the creek at 79th Street and St. Clair Avenue, Sgt. Cantrell Patterson said at the time.

Illinois State Police we’re called in to assist in a criminal investigation.

Elias-Walls was pronounced at 10:13 a.m. that morning Dye said. He said “modern technology” helped in making an identification, but would not specify.

Dye said a cause of death has not yet been determined.

No other details were immediately available.
