East St. Louis man accused of fatally shooting another man in the back
A 25-year-old East St. Louis man was charged with first-degree murder on Saturday in connection with the shooting death of a man a week ago, Illinois State Police said.
Ormond L. Mosley is accused of fatally shooting Cornelius Jones, 26, of East St. Louis in the back, according to a state police news release.
This shooting occurred on April 25 in the parking lot of the John DeShields public housing complex in East St. Louis.
Officers were sent to the complex at 6:30 p.m. on April 25 after reports of gunshots and a man down, East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson said last week.
Illinois State Police said additional details about the shooting will not be released.
Mosley was being held in the St. Clair County Jail on Saturday in lieu of a $1 million bond, police said.
Along with the murder charge, Mosley also was charged with one count of a felon in possession of a firearm.
State police said Mosley previously was convicted of burglary, a forcible felony.
The shooting was investigated by the East St. Louis Police Department and Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation – Zone 6.
