Cahokia-area man charged with sexual abuse of 15-year-old girl

A Cahokia area man was charged Tuesday with inappropriately touching a an under-aged member of his family.

James, R, Loveless, 33, was charged by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of domestic battery.

Police learned about the alleged abuse from the 15-year old female victim’s mother, Cahokia Police Capt. Dennis Plew said.

Loveless is currently being held at the St. Clair County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Plew said police were called to the 1300 block of St. Stephens Drive Sunday night at 10 p.m.

“When officers arrived, they met with the 15-year old victim. the mother told police her daughter had told her that a male subject, who is also a family member, had inappropriately touched her in private areas of her body,” Plew said. “The Cahokia Police Department’s’ Criminal Investigative Division investigated the case further and through interviews with the victim and witnesses, developed enough information to apply for criminal charges against Mr. Loveless.”

If convicted, Loveless could be sentenced to between three and seven years on each count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and an additional one to three years for the domestic battery.

Loveless had been released on parole from a Missouri prison where he was serving a sentence on a felony domestic battery conviction, according to police.
