Washington Park man found shot in Alorton street, later died at hospital
A Washington Park man was found injured and laying in an Alorton street Wednesday morning and later died at Touchette Regional Hospital.
St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. Identified the 28-year old victim as Deason T. Nichols. His last known address was on Church Street in East St. Louis, but Alorton Police Chief David Clark said Nichols was living in Washington Park.
Nichols was pronounced at 2:07 a.m., Dye said.
AClark said officers were dispatched to the 4200 block of McCallum at 1:05 a.m. in reference to shots fired and a body in the street.
“Upon their arrival, the officers observed a black male subject in the street. He appeared to be injured in some way,” Clark said. “Officers called for an ambulance and the subject was taken to Touchette Regional Hospital.”
Clark said it appeared Nichols had sustained gunshot wounds and officers called for assistance from an Illinois State Police crime scene technician.
Several bullet casings were collected at the scene, Clark sad.
Dye confirmed the Nichols’ gunshot wounds.
