Belleville Police arrest two juveniles in MetroLink carjacking, looking for a third

Two juveniles, a 14-year-old male from East St. Louis and a 16-year-old from Cahokia, have been arrested n connection with a carjacking that occurred at the Belleville Memorial Metro-Link station on July 18.

Police are still looking for a third suspect, a 15-year-old boy from Cahokia.

Belleville Police Lt. Todd Keilbach said the incident occurred at 8:29 p.m. after the male victim came back to the station after riding his bicycle on the Metro BikeLink trail.

“We were dispatched to 1351 Frank Scott Parkway in reference to an armed vehicular car hijacking,” Keilbach confirmed. “The victim said after he finished loading his up his bicycle he was approached by three males. One of the males pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded the keys to his vehicle., which the victim complied to.”

The three juvenile suspects, who are not being identified because of their age, took the victim’s silver, 2006 Toyota Corolla and fled toward Illinois 161 .

The car was spotted by police in the 2500 block of Louisiana Boulevard in East St. Louis July 20 at 1:58 a.m. A pursuit ended on Eighth Street in St. Louis when the driver struck a curb.

Four occupants in the vehicle were identified at the Eighth street location, Keilbach said.

A 14-year-old male from East St. Louis and 16-year-old male from Cahokia were taken into custody without incident. A third juvenile, a 15-year-old from Cahokia, is still being sought by police, Keilbach said.

Both juveniles taken into custody are being held at the St. Car County Juvenile Detention Center pending review by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office,” Keilbach said.
